“Immensity. Fantastic journey between two continents”

in honor of the indigenous people of Latin America

12th of October

Athens, October 12, 2016. The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Athens, is hosting the exhibition “Immensity. Fantastic journey between two continents”, within the framework of the “Day of the Resistance of Indigenous - 12 October”, in the cultural space of “Francisco de Miranda” in Haritos 6 Kolonaki.

This exhibition, which will last until the 20th of October, is a fantastic journey between the countries of Venezuela, Greece and Iceland, through the works of sculpture and poetry of the Greek artist, Olga Plastira and watercolors of the Polish artist, Andrzej Wisniewski.

In the exhibition “Inmensity. Fantastic journey between two continents” the visitors can “virtually” travel through six large banners painted by the artist, Andrzej K. Wisniewski, where the poem “Immensity” is reflected and has been translated in the “alphabet of the waves”, and also in the Greek language and in the official languages of the indigenous tribes of Venezuela, the warao and the wayuunaiki. Moreover, the visitors can admire a series of watercolors that depict the wildlife and fauna of Venezuela and the landscapes of the island Gkarntour in Iceland.

It is worth noting, that in 1988, Wisniewski created the “language of the waves” during a transatlantic journey where he managed to take photos of the sea.  During this trip, he made a graphic representation of the waves, adjusting a chart of each wave in each one letter of the Latin alphabet. Similarly, the languages Wayuunaiki and Warao, which belong to the ethnic tribes Wayuu and Warao are represented in this exhibition and the Greek public can meet with these ancient cultures.

This exhibition was marked by the decisive response of the State:

The inauguration of this important activity was attended by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Dimitris Mardas, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship, Greece-Venezuela representing the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Triantafillos Mitafidis.

Also, they were present the Ambassador of Cuba, Oswaldo Jesus Martinez, the Ambassador of Chile, Pia Busta, the Ambassador of Argentina, Adriana Lissidini Dotti, the Consuls of the Dominican Republic, Genoveva Bernard and Christos Vardikos, the MP of SYRIZA, Efi Georgopoulou, the Consul of the Cultural Section of the Embassy of Peru, Carmen Peina, the Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Panama, and a diverse audience of renowned artists, representatives of the cultural area of Athens, intellectuals, journalists and representatives of the Venezuelan and Latin American community residents in Greece. /Embassy.
